Should I worry about missionaries wasting my money?

Let’s talk about money.

I know—your stomach just sank. It’s a touchy subject, but let’s be honest: money is a big part of life.

And if you’ve ever wondered what a missionary actually does with your money, this post is for you.

The truth? Most missionaries are not fully supported.

And when they are, “fully supported” often means just enough to scrape by—no vacations, no new cars, sometimes not even insurance. The need is great. And we know it.

But maybe you’ve asked:

“What if they waste it?”

“What if my money doesn’t go to the work?”

Fair questions. Your money is hard-earned, and you deserve to know it’s making a difference.

That’s why supporting missions should be personal.

Find a few missionaries. Get to know them. Hear their hearts. Pray with them. Hold their rope—and don’t let go.

Support them monthly. Send a love offering when the Lord nudges your heart.

Here’s the truth:

If you can’t trust a missionary to use your money well, we may not be holding them the way we should.

You may not always have that connection—especially when giving through a church or mission board. But when possible, build it.

You cannot over-support a good missionary.

So don’t hold back.

Find a missionary. Support them. And hold the rope.
